At this time, details of an unfurnished Casita, or empty box Casita, have not yet been established, however we do plan to have one in the future. We will provide an update once plans and pricing are available. Please stay tuned on our social media platforms and website for the most updated information.
The Casita is engineered to connect side by side or be stackable. However, the feasibility of stacking units depends on the specific property in question and would require an assessment by a third-party structural engineer.
At this time, details of an ADA Casita have not been established yet. We will provide an update once plans and pricing are available. Please stay tuned on our social media platforms and website for the most updated information.
The Casita is not classified as a manufactured, trailer, or a HUD home. They do not currently fall under the HUD guidelines and are built to a higher code standard than most traditional manufactured homes.
At this point, the Casita does not have any smart home features included from the factory; however, this is something we plan to integrate in the future.
Boxabl currently provides a 12-month limited warranty on the Casita to cover manufacturer defects. The appliances are covered by the individual manufacturers’ warranties.
The type of insurance required depends on how your Casita is being set up. You will need to obtain insurance pertaining to your specific situation. Traditional homeowners’ insurance is available for modular homes.
Boxabl's Casita complies with state modular residential building codes in several U.S. states. In states without a modular program, deployment requires local jurisdiction approval. Currently, it cannot be sold as a modular home in other states until further approvals are obtained. The Casita's SIP panels meet international building codes (see panel listing: https://icc-es.org/report-listing/ESR-4725/).
Currently, Boxabl offers only the 19ft x 19ft (361 sq. ft.) studio-style Casita, featuring a kitchen with energy-efficient appliances and a bathroom. While larger sizes and alternative floor plans are not yet available, future product expansions are planned. After installation, you can customize your Casita like remodeling a house, with a contractor's help to assess options and costs.
In the future, we will be exploring add-ons from the factory that can be installed on your Casita. We will be sure to keep you updated on any further product and accessory offerings from Boxabl.
In the current design, the interior walls are made up of a material called MGO (Magnesium Oxide) which is similar to drywall and sheetrock. Its properties make it fire, mold, water, and insect resistant.
At this time, the Casitas do not have stairs. An external staircase would be required if you have two Casitas stacked on top of each other. We do not currently offer stairs from the factory, so you would need to work with a contractor to install external stairs.
In the current design, there are three different window sizes are 36x72, 36x24, and 36x48. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, please consult our Technical Docs page for our current plan sets. The windows are standard double-pane windows.
In the current design of the Casita, there is a bathroom exhaust fan vent, whole house air intake vent, and plumbing system vents. There are also internal air admittance valves to assist the ventilation in locations where it’s difficult to run vent piping to the exterior.
Inside the Casita, there are 16 receptacles, equaling 29 outlets. In the living room, there are USB outlets in the receptacles. 3 of the receptacles (single outlets) are used for the appliances. Externally, there are 2 receptacles, totaling 4 outlets.
The Casita has a flat roof that has a TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) membrane that is added to the roof during installation. This membrane is watertight, insulated, and snow load rated. Some areas will require a pitched roof, in that case, you will need to add a roof solution on-site with your contractor. In the future, we are exploring a pitched roof system that can be purchased directly through BOXABL as an addition to the standard Casita.
Currently, the standard flat roof is rated at 31lbs per sq. ft. of snow. Depending on your climate zone, a pitched roof may be required to accommodate additional snow load and local code requirements. In that case, you will need to add a roof solution on-site with your contractor. In the future, we are exploring a pitched roof system that can be purchased directly through Boxabl as an addition to the standard Casita.
